CGSS Participation at the First Caspian Economic Forum at Turkmenistan


The 1st Caspian Economic Forum was held in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan’s Ava tourist zone on August 11 and 12, 2019. The President of Turkmenistan inaugurated the forum. In his speech he stated the need for enhancing cooperation in trade, economy and transport sector. He said objectives of this forum is to work together for economic growth of the region.
The Forum provided an opportunity to the private and state sector enterprises to hold dialogue to promote cooperation in Scientific Research, economic development, trade and mutual investment.
The manufacturers from Caspian states also displayed their products in a huge hall. People from Europe, Asia, Central Asian states and Caspian states were quite interested in the products.
Since, a number of business men were also invited to see the display and attend the forum, the occasion provided them an opportunity to make deals for imports and exports.
Pakistan was represented by the Center for Global and Strategic Studies, His Ashfaq Ahmed Gondal - Former Federal Secretary Information and Broadcasting and Senior Member Advisory Board. Besides. Two Think Tanks representatives also attended. PTV covered the event.
The First Caspian Economic Forum convened in Turkmenistan's resort town of Awaza near western port city of Turkmenbashi with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Iranian Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Nevruz Memmedov and Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin attending alongside their respective delegations.
President of Turkmenistan Mr. Berdymukhamedov appeared to be at full strength as he gave a live televised speech that lasted more than 20 minutes.
The agreements concluded among the governments of the Caspian countries on the cooperation in trade, economy and transport sector contribute to the further strengthening and development of cooperation in the economic sphere.
The platform of the Caspian Economic Forum can be an important form of cooperation aimed at ensuring the economic growth in the region and beyond. The need of increasing the potential in the field of trade and investment policy and simplifying the trade procedures was emphasized.
At the forum, recommendations were made to take the necessary steps to increase the attractiveness of the economy of the Caspian countries with a view of further actively integrating of the Caspian region into the international economic space.
The importance of encouraging investment attraction and stimulating the innovations in the energy, industrial, transport, trade and other sectors of the economy of the Caspian countries was stressed. The further strengthening of regional cooperation in such fields as socio-economic development, environmental protection, science and innovations, exchange of economic information should be ensured.
