Seventh Session of the Online Internship Program “Contemporary Dynamics of Azerbaijan”

On 24th August 2020, seventh session of the Online Internship Program “Contemporary Dynamics of Azerbaijan” was held. This internship program is initiated jointly by Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad and Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan.
Theme for the fourth week of this internship is related to Armed forces of Azerbaijan. Defense & military cooperation with Pakistan.
The session was commenced with the remarks of Ms. Mehreen Gul, Director, CGSS and Program Coordinator of the Internship Program. She highlighted that the Military cooperation between Azerbaijan & Pakistan is one of the most important aspects of bilateral relations between both countries.
Colonel Mehman Novruzov Defence Attache of Azerbaijan Armed Forces to Pakistan was the speaker for this session, he gave an in depth presentation on the history of Azerbaijan’s armed forces and highlighted the tenacious efforts of H.E Heyder Aliyev for the strong establishment and support of Azerbaijan armed forces to protect their sovereignty.
Moreover, he stressed on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and explained the participants about the Armenian terrorism in Azerbaijan including the Khojaly Genocide in which more than 600 innocent people were brutally executed. He highlighted that during these testing times there was an urgent need for a strong leader. National Leader Heyder Aliyev created a disciplined army and in early 1994, the Azerbaijani army made a successful operation against enemy forces near Horadiz, Fizuli region.
Colonel Mehman Novruzov shared interesting videos related to the Azerbaijan Armed forces and explained the National Security Concept of Azerbaijan highlighting the main directions that include, National Security Policy of Azerbaijan and promotion of security by domestic policy means. He also shared the organizational structure of Azerbaijan Armed Forces. It is note-worthy that students from across Pakistan have enrolled for this exclusive Internship program. This program will prove to be a milestone in improving the bilateral diplomatic relations of Azerbaijan and Pakistan.
