Fourteenth Session of the Online Internship Program “Contemporary Dynamics of Azerbaijan”


On 18th September 2020, the fourteenth session of the Online Internship Program “Contemporary Dynamics of Azerbaijan” was held. This internship program is initiated jointly by Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad, and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan.
The theme for the seventh week of this internship is related to “History of Azerbaijan, Shared ties & Commonalities with Pakistan”.
The session commenced with the opening remarks of Ms. Mehreen Gul, Program Director who discussed the shared history of Azerbaijan and Pakistan.
Professor Dr. Muhammad Ijaz Latif, Chairman, Department of International Relations, University of Bahawalpur was the speaker for the session. He discussed the Islamic history that originated from Azerbaijan region. He also highlighted the role of Islamic rulers in promotion of trade and economy of this region.
Dr Ijaz Latif further discussed about the Ottoman rulers influence in the Azerbaijan region. Moreover, he explained to the participants about the struggle of Azerbaijan in gaining independence and Pakistan is among the first country to recognize Azerbaijan. Furthermore, he stated that it is noteworthy that there are many commonalities between the two countries especially the freedom movement. We believe in justice and welfare of the country same like Azerbaijan.
It is noteworthy that students from across Pakistan have enrolled for this exclusive Internship program. This program will prove to be a milestone in improving the bilateral diplomatic relations of Azerbaijan and Pakistan.
