Tenth Session of the Online Internship Program, “Evolving China in the Modern World” jointly organized by Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad and Communication University of China, Beijing


On 27th November 2020 the tenth session of the Online internship Program, “Evolving China in the Modern World” was held. This internship program is initiated jointly by the Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad, and the Communication University of China, Beijing.
The theme for the tenth session was Political Economy of Belt and Road Initiative and it was conducted by, Mr. Shakeel Ahmad Ramay, Member Advisory Board, Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad and Political Economist. Mr. Shakeel Ahmad Ramay gave a comprehensive presentation related to the concept. He initiated the lecture by discussing the current challenges being faced by the global community including poverty, food security, safe drinking water, and energy crisis. He also highlighted the crisis faced by the world post-COVID-19.
Moreover, he shared informative statistics related to the global governance imbalances.
Discussing the benefits of the Belt and Road Initiative on the global economy he highlighted that BRI projects are aimed to focus more on Better Living as compared to profit. China also believes in shared prosperity and a community with a shared future.
Furthermore, he shared that the Belt and Road Initiative will create a favorable investment distribution across the world that includes, 39.33% improvement in the Energy sector and 24.54% improvement in the Transport sector.
Mr. Shakeel Ramay emphasized that Belt and Road Initiative is different and better from other global projects as it has more potential for pre-emptive strike and peace through development. It is one of the projects that promise development and prosperity not only for the partner countries but for other countries as well.
The potential of BRI Transport Projects will reduce travel time to 12% and will increase the trade ratio from 2.7% - 9.7%. Highlighting the impacts of the Belt and Road Initiative he further mentioned that these projects will bring green technology, innovation, and corporate social responsibility, and sustainable transformation.
The session was moderated by Ms. Palwasha Nawaz, Deputy Director, Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future, Communication University of China, Beijing, China, and Project Executive, CGSS. Notably, scholars and students from across Pakistan, China, and Tanzania have enrolled in this internship program to learn more about China.
