Third Session of the Online Course, “Turkmenistan’s Policy of Permanent Neutrality” jointly organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan to Pakistan and Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad


On 10th February 2021, the third and last session of the Three Day Online Course on “Turkmenistan’s Policy of Permanent Neutrality” was held. This course was jointly organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan to Pakistan and the Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad.
The Online Course aimed to provide an opportunity to the students of Pakistan to get familiarized with various aspects of Turkmenistan’s Foreign Policy, Neutrality Policy of Turkmenistan, and Energy, Transport, and Economic Diplomacy of Turkmenistan.
The session commenced with the opening remarks of Ms. Madiha Ghaffar, Media and Communication Manger, CGSS. She stated that Pakistan and Turkmenistan enjoy cordial relations. Turkmenistan’s decision to adopt the policy of neutrality has positively impacted its security and economy and has put the Republic on the right trajectory of development and prosperity. She stated that CGSS looks forward to organize more such initiatives with Turkmenistan in future also.
The theme for the third session was, Energy, Transport, and Economic Diplomacy of Turkmenistan and the speaker for this session was Mr. Perhat Charyyev, Senior Lecturer, Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the session, Mr. Perhat highlighted the joint energy projects among the Central Asian states and Pakistan i.e. TAPI project. He presented comprehensive analysis on some significant energy projects of Turkmenistan in present times that would strengthen the trade activity and regional integration.
According to Mr. Perhat, Turkmenistan also aims to sign international agreements for multilateral cooperation. Mr. Perhat also explained the importance of new railway projects in 2021, mainly the railroad projects that connects Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia and Azerbaijan.
He also stated that Pakistan and Turkmenistan are two brotherly nations and the prospects of cooperation are very high in every domain including economic cooperation, trade activity, fiber optic lines via TAPI and others. The session was moderated by Ms. Maryam Raza, Research Associate, CGSS.
It is noteworthy that students from all across Pakistan were enrolled in this Online Course. The Online third session was attended by 60 participants. This course will prove to be a milestone for the students of International Relations & related fields to understand the Neutrality Policy of Turkmenistan.
