Seminar on Regional Challenges and Prospects-Pakistan, Iran and Gulf Countries Relations


On 24th May 2017, the Center for Global & Strategic Studies arranged a Seminar on “Regional Challenges and Prospects-Pakistan, Iran and Gulf Countries Relations” at the Marriott Hotel, Islamabad.
The event brought together diplomats, scholars, corporate heads, armed forces officers, government representatives and students under one roof.
The Keynote speeches were given by:

a. Ambassador Akram Zaki- Former Secretary General and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs
b. Ambassador Khalid Mahmood - Former Ambassador of Pakistan to China, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq and    Mongolia
c. Ambassador Khalid Aziz Babar – Former Special Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
d. Lieutenant General Naeem Khalid Lodhi HI(M), (Retd) – Former Federal Defence Secretary of Pakistan
e. Major General Syed Khalid Amir Jaffery HI(M), (Retd) – President CGSS

In the second session of Panel Discussion, Ambassador Amjad Majid Abbasi- Senior Member CGSS, acted as the Moderator of the Panel where Lieutenant General Muhammad Zahir Ul Islam HI(M), (Retd) - Chairman CGSS and Mr. Amer Hashmi – Advisor, National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) also joined the Keynote Speakers as the Panelists.
The objective of the Seminar was to discuss the existing security challenges that are common to Pakistan, Iran and Gulf Countries and assessing the prospects and possible way forward that could be worked upon by the respective governments and law enforcement agencies to deal with the existing security threats. Prospects for enhancing the security of the respective countries and the development of mutually beneficial relations were also discussed.
The seminar marked the attendance of almost 275 people belonging to various institutions.
