First Session of the Online Internship Program, “Evolving China in the Modern World” jointly organized by Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad and Communication University of China, Beijing

On 26th October, the first session of the Online internship Program, “Evolving China in the Modern World” was held. This internship program is initiated jointly by the Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad, and the Communication University of China, Beijing.
The session commenced with the opening remarks of Prof. Dr. Shabir Ahmad Khan, Director, Area Study Centre (Russia, China, and Central Asia), University of Peshawar. He welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of this exclusive internship program that will result in enhanced people to people contact between China and Pakistan. He further emphasized that the academic sector of both countries will have a chance to interact and know more about the culture of China through this internship program.
The theme for the first week of this internship is related to the “International Communication of Chinese Language and Culture: Past and Present” and it was conducted by, Associate Professor Juan Xu, from the Communication University of China.
Professor Juan Xu gave a detailed presentation regarding the development of the Chinese language. She highlighted the timeline of Chinese history starting from 1.7 million years ago. She explained the various dynasties in which the Tang Dynasty was the most prosperous and most influential dynasty of Chinese history. She further highlighted the importance of language in building strong diplomatic relations between countries.
Discussing the bilateral ties between China and Pakistan she mentioned the growing friendship of both countries and the exchange of culture through various means like media and language. She emphasized the Chinese Language Department at the National University of Modern Languages and also the establishment of China Radio International Urdu Service to bring closer the people of Pakistan and China.
Professor Juan Xu appreciated this initiative by CGSS. She highlighted that China and Pakistan have a unique and precious all-weather strategic partnership, and this internship program will bring the student fraternity closer.
The session was moderated by Ms. Palwasha Nawaz, Project Executive, CGSS & Coordinator of the Online Internship Program. Notably, scholars and students from across Pakistan have enrolled in this internship program.
