Fifth Session of the Online Internship Program, “Evolving China in the Modern World” jointly organized by Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad and Communication University of China, Beijing.

On 9th November 2020 the fifth session of the Online internship Program, “Evolving China in the Modern World” was held. This internship program is initiated jointly by the Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad, and the Communication University of China, Beijing. The theme for the Fifth session of this internship was related to the "Innovation Elements in the Era of Smart Converging Media: 5G, Artificial Intelligence, and Virtual Reality” and it was conducted by, Professor Sanxing Cao, Collaborative Innovation Center & State Key Lab for Media Convergence and Communication, Communication University of China. The session was commenced by the opening remarks of Prof Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed, Member Board of Experts, CGSS and Assistant, Professor, Department of Politics & IR, University of Sargodha. He explained the importance of this internship program in enhancing people to people contact between China and Pakistan and stated that, the topic under discussion is of vital importance as we are living in an era of technological advancements. Professor Sanxing gave a detailed presentation on the concept explaining the shift towards the latest technology from traditional media to new forms of media. He highlighted four important areas of discussions including, The trends of smart converging media, 5G Networking and Services, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality. He explained to the participants that, Smart Convergent Media is the product of innovation effects on converging media systems by the technologies including the New Generation of Artificial Intelligence, it is also known to be the senior form of Integrated Media. While discussing Artificial Intelligence he stated that there might come a time when All human knowledge will be publicly accessible — all music, all art, all media, all things and the distinction between human thought and computer thought will be blurred. We will be part of the network; the network will be part of us. We will be the Hive Mind, and we collectively will have evolved into something quite unlike anything the world has ever seen. He also highlighted the 5G evolution and networking that has engulfed our global community. The session was moderated by Ms. Palwasha Nawaz, Deputy Director, Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future, Communication University of China, Beijing, China and Project Executive, CGSS. It is notable that scholars and students from across Pakistan, China and Tanzania have enrolled in this internship program to learn more about China.
