Strategic Environments of South Asia/Indian Ocean Region: Sri Lanka Perspective

On 15th November, 2017, the CGSS conducted an Interactive Series Session on “Strategic Environments of South Asia/Indian Ocean Region: Sri Lanka Perspective”. The guest speaker who delivered talk on this occasion was Admiral (Dr.) Jayanth Colambage – Former Naval Chief, Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka. He extensively highlighted the geostrategic essence and recent developments in the Indian Ocean. He stated that currently, Indian Ocean is heavily militarized and nuclearized and major power rivalry has led to an “Undeclared Maritime Cold War” in the Indian Ocean and urged to create trust between South Asian states to overcome the ‘trust deficiency’ and formulation of ‘New Indian Ocean Order” on ruled based mechanism to ensure the peace security and regional integration.
The event brought together 60 participants including senior Advisory Board Members, retired armed forces officers, diplomats and government representatives from across the country.
