CGSS Participated in Seminar on “The International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028” organized by ISSI


On 26th April, 2018 Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad organized the seminar “The International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028”. Mr. Babur Suhail – Vice President CGSS attended the seminar as a guest speaker where he presented on “Different Dimensions of Water Issues”. Mr. Babur said that if water is the present then its conservation is the future. He stated that to achieve the maximum from the National Water Policy, the government should announce other policies and/or frameworks for the agriculture sector and groundwater usage in accordance with the best international conservatory practices. The legal dimensions he discussed included: Political, Legal, Social, Economic and Environmental Dimensions.
Speakers at the seminar also included: H.E. Sherali Jononov –Ambassador of Republic of Tajikistan; Dr. Nizomuddin Zohidi –First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Tajikistan; Mr. Ghafurzoda Taghaimurod –Head of Department of Water Resource of Ministry of Energy & Water Resources, Republic of Tajikistan and Dr. Muhammad Ashraf –Chairman of Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR). The speakers from Republic of Tajikistan discussed about Tajikistan being one of the leaders in advancing water resources at an international level and aims at using its water resources to not only meet national needs, but also to create regional balance. Other speakers spoke on climate change, population growth and increase in demand for water resources, means of implementation particularly human and financial resources. They further discussed the need for cooperation in the field of education and culture and joint component of water cooperation for peace and stability.
