On 10th July 2019, Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad in collaboration with Embassy of Republic of Uzbekistan, Islamabad organized Reception at the Residence of Uzbekistan's Ambassador H.E. Furqat A. Sidiqov took place a working dinner with the Federal Minister of Pakistan for National Food Security and Research H.E. Mr. Sahibzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan.
During the event were discussed the perspectives of development of Uzbekistan-Pakistan relations in the fields of agriculture, food security, trade and scientific partnership.
Primary attention was given to the organizational matters of the next session of Uzbek-Pak Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economical and Scientific-Technical Cooperation. It was agreed that this upcoming session will be held in Tashkent till the end of this year.
Moreover, parties supported the idea of adding members of Uzbekistan-Pakistan Business Council to the composition of Pakistani delegation for the session of Intergovernmental Commission in Tashkent.
Also, Pakistani side was agree to deepen cooperation with Uzbekistan in the fields of cotton cultivation, transfer from Uzbekistan scientific inventions as well as to conduct joint scientific projects.
Moreover, it was mentioned that last year Uzbekistan became largest trade partner in Central Asia. Trade turnover between the two countries is increasing in dynamic manner, primary with agricultural products. The dinner held in very warm, open and friendly nature. It helped to identify new areas to concentrate the efforts for the sake of two brotherly nations.
During the dinner, CGSS members who participated included: Maj Gen Hafiz Masroor Ahmed, (Retd) – Vice President CGSS, Brigadier Abdullah Khan (Retd) – Member Advisory Board CGSS and Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Taimur Akram (Retd) – Executive Director CGSS which at the same time serves as the Vice President of Uzbekistan-Pakistan Business Council.
